POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM

EURYTHMY IN SOCIAL AND WORKING LIFE

Escuela Cultura offers a Postgraduate Program in Eurythmy in Social and Working Life with TERESA MAZZEI as Social Eurythmy Leader.

The development of the inner aspect of the social question through Eurythmy can establish a healthy dynamic relationship when as human beings we meet other human beings, and must reach the stage of an evolved and conscious social organism.

The goal of the Program

The aim of the Postgraduate Program is to acquire sensitivity, images, knowledge and tools to start or to nourish the work as a eurythmist with companies or any other organisations in which the attention to individual people goes side by side with the attention to the social organism that they create.

By social organism we refer to all companies or associations, or other organised context such as teams, collegium, study groups, ethical purchasing groups and so on, in which several people come together with a more or less complex organisation to achieve something that otherwise alone would not be possible to put on the ground.

When working with Eurythmy in this field we can contribute, in a conscious and targeted way, to the development of both: the individual and the social organism, at the same time.

Although an important part of the Program is dedicated to providing concrete exercises precious material acquired over the years largely by Annemarie Ehrlich (EWL Institute, Den Haag, The Netherlands) we don’t mean to provide recipes.

The goal is that everyone develops their own sensitivity and relationship in respect with the social organism, to become able to evaluate and intervene with awareness and competence in situations she/he may encounter, dialoguing and “speaking the language” of the people who work there.

For example in the Program, we will meet some “words” that are often used when we work together, such as effectiveness and efficiency, team building, responsibility and delegation, motivation, process development, process owner, vision, organisational culture, feedback, information system, change management, leadership styles, job rotation and other more; we will connect them to the work that we can do through Eurythmy. The same will be for some of the soft skills that are required in social and working fields.

For this, the Program has also parts of practising in creating and leading exercises as well as opportunities to be tutored in real project

Why use Eurythmy in social and working contexts as a specific Postgraduate Program?

Each social organism lives in a constant movement and develops out of movement – as much as simple or complex it could be, each organisation ‐ through the people who work in it ‐ is born, grows, goes through phases, and can even end; it therefore acquires a life, an ability to learn and evolve, through the people that work in or around, but it is more than the simply sum of the individual competences.

Moreover, it never stands still, there is no stasis: either it evolves together with the context, generating value for people and the territory or it regresses by destroying value on the same levels. It is a unique entity, in which people move (or should move) in processes that imply a rhythm, interchanges and interdependencies inside and outside, diversification and specialisation, as well as a common image to achieve that is not static but in continuous and potential evolution.

Can this movement be spontaneous or inertial? Evidently not.

Working through Eurythmy with adults who interact in social and work contexts, requires proper elaboration of the Eurythmy’s elements as well as of the leading process of an Eurythmy session connected to the context.

Moreover, all should be in connection with the image of human being and of the social organism we want to nourish, as well as with the development process of both in each biography stage.

It is exactly what is required with children or adults when we work through Eurythmy in pedagogical or health‐disease processes. Each field has its own law and peculiarities that it is important to encounter in order to consciously listen to its needs and potentialities, and consequently and consciously intervene.

The participants

The Postgraduate Programme is aimed at eurythmists and non-eurythmists.

Eurythmy graduates of the Performing Arts Section of the Goetheanum, Dornach, who wish to nurture their own path and career in Eurythmy and Eurythmy students in their final year of training.

A part of each module will be opened to non‐eurythmists, teachers, coordinators, team directors, managers, consultants, employees or any other person who is interested in conscious movement as part of personal and social development process.

There will be open sessions along the programme where the community of the surrounding can join and, in the last module there is the opportunity to do an internship in Social and Labour Eurythmy in social or labour organisations in the surrounding area.

Teresa Mazzei- Social Eurythmy Leader

“My professional background is based on twentyfive-year-long multiple-work experience in several companies, first as a consultant in leading consulting international firms, then as a treasury manager and a chief financial officer in a company for financial services.

Although I have always dedicated myself to my work with full commitment, my life has constantly been accompanied by a deep-lying question: What is the meaning of working for a firm or in any other group for a common task?

In 2006 I met Annemarie Ehrlich, taking part in her workshop ‘Eurythmy in the workplace’. Since the very first meeting I was able to find some answers to my questions about ‘meaningless tasks’ and I immediately grasped the high potential of this art for the development of organizations and of individuals working in them.

The impulse I received was so strong that I decided to start a six-year training course in Eurythmy and the specialization in ‘Eurythmy in the workplace’ with Annemarie Ehrlich, regardless of the difficulties I had in combining working life and my training path. My way of work changed quite soon and also my responsibility in leadership increased!

For over 13 years, I regularly attended courses with Annemarie, even after the training. I am also a member of ASD, Association for Social Development promoted from Lievegoed’s impulse.”
